Soviet Broad Pennant of a Naval Unit or Formation Commander, dated 1979.
GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL made in USSR exclusively for use by the Soviet Navy – not a replica or souvenir!
Made in wool bunting (special tough fabric able to withstand sea voyages), measures 7' 10" long, 15½ " across at the hoist. The canvas hoist sleeve shows a 1979 date of manufacture. Features USSR naval ensign at the base, followed by a slightly tapered red field ending in swallow-tail. This type of pennant was hoisted just below the commission pennant on the masthead of the ship of the fleet, large unit or formation commander (above squadron size) while the ship was underway.
This particular broad pennant is of extremely large size for its type; it was obviously made for one of the largest capital vessels in Soviet inventory such as heavy cruiser or aircraft carrier.
The pennant is in very good to excellent condition. There are a few tiny moth bites to the red fabric near the swallow- tail ends, but they are almost unnoticeable considering the overall size of the pennant. There is also a very faint stain near the tip of the red star but it's also barely noticeable. There is no other visible moth damage or wear. The colors are strong; the pennant is completely free of soiling.
Superb and pretty scarce piece to put on the wall or in a display case as part of your Soviet collection!
