Description
This is a set of five (5) original U.S. Army WWII tins full of ski wax, in orange and blue colors for different ski conditions. This is the type of ski wax used by troops of the 1st Special Service Force (First SSF), the US Army 10th Mountain Division, and other units. The ski wax tins are as follows: (1) A blue ski wax in a cardboard tube with steel lid, the tube is marked with: "U.S. BLUE, Stock No. 51-W-250, Contract No. W155 qm - 13841, For DRY SNOW, Contents 2 oz., Made in U.S.A., Contractor AMERICAN GREASE STICK CO., MUSKEGON, MICH." (2) A tube of blue wax, in a cardboard container having a steel lid, the tube is marked with: "U.S. BLUE Stock No. 51-W-250, Contract No. W155 qm 13840, For DRY SNOW Contents 2 oz. Made in U.S.A., Apply a liberal layer to running surface and smooth with palm of hand. If back slipping occurs, rub on additional wax outdoors without smoothing. If snow conditions are such that snow sticks to this wax, rub some SPEED WAX over it for downhill running. For climbing at subzero temperatures, apply a thin layer of WET SNOW WAS on top of this DRY SNOW WAX. F.H. WEISSNER, INC." (3) A tube of blue wax, in a steel container, it is marked with "U.S. BLUE Stock No. 55-W-250, Contract No. W155 qm 11657, UNIVERSAL CLIMBING AND RUNNING WAX FOR POWDER AND NEW SNOW, Contents 2 oz., Made in U.S.A., Apply thinly to running surface and smooth with palm of hand. If backslip occurs additional BLUE may be dabbed on outdoors. If snow sticks to running surface rub a little paraffin RED Wax over the layer of BLUE Wax, F.H. Wiessner, Inc. (4) A tube of orange wax, in a steel container with steel lid, this is marked with "U.S. ORANGE, Stock No. 51-W-260, FOR CLIMBING AND RUNNING IN WET AND GRANULAR SNOW, Contents 2 oz., Made in U.S.A., Apply a liberal layer over entire running surface and allow wax to harden outdoors before using skis. For sticky snow conditions a little Red Wax may be applied after the ORANGE has hardened in the cold. Always remove ORANGE before using skis in powder snow. F.H. WIESNER INC." (5) Another tube of orange wax, the tube is steel and has a paper label. The label is printed with exactly the same information as the first tube of orange wax. Four of the tubes of wax were made under contracts dated 1941 and 1942. The two containers of orange wax were made under a contract with the F.H. Weissner company dated September 8, 1941 (contract 11657), and two of the blue tubes under a contract dated August 25, 1942 (contract 13841). The tube of blue wax made by the American Grease Stick company would have been dated 1942 as well, given that its contract number is lower than that of the August 1942 contract with F.H. Weissner. At one time I had full boxes of these with the original box labels, I have sold all except for these last five tubes. **************** ************ The tubes of wax are unissued and unused, still full of wax. There are some very minor scratches and wear associated with storage over the past 80 years or so, and the paper label on the orange tube has some spots, likely from wax, but these are essentially mint and never used. Labels are copies, but quite legible. See photos for the exact items you will receive. . *********** I can ship worldwide. Buyers pay exact postage only.
