Description
This Buy it Now auction is for an American Army Gas Can. It is old and in Used Condition, and it has been repainted. The "ICC - 5" marking means Interstate Commerce Commission zone 5. The manufacturer is "Wheeling". The "20 5 1/4 41" marking means 20 Liters or 5 1/4 Gallons, and a 1941 date. This is an Army marked Gas Can with a "USA" marking on the side, that means United States Army. The other side has a "QMC", which means Quartermaster Corps. Both sides of the can have "G" gas markings. Some Water Cans have a "W" water marking. This item is an old relic in Used Condition with wear damage from use. There are scratches, dents, paint loss, and oxidation to the metal parts. It has been repainted. This is an American Jerry Can from the first year that the American Forces started manufacturing them. This 1941 Army Gas Can comes with a Vehicle Mount tray, a Canvas Water Bucket, and a Canvas Strap. The Vehicle Mount Tray has also been repainted. The Canvas Water Bucket is WW2 vintage, and has faded markings. There are also dirt stains, and small holes in the canvas of the Water Bucket. There is a "BUSS" marking written on the canvas Water Bucket. The Canvas Strap is WW2 to Vietnam vintage, and the strap helps attach the gas can to the tray.Army marked gas cans from WW2 are Quartermaster Corps (QMC / USA) marked. During the Korean War Army Gas Cans changed to just having a "US" marking on the side. Navy gas cans are marked "USN" on the sides, and Marine Corps cans are marked "USMC" on the sides. The Gas can weighs around 15 LBS and is around 14 Inches by 19 Inches by 7 Inches in size. It cost me .76 to mail one of these type of Gas Cans to South Carolina. Expect to pay around .00 to .00 for the shipping cost within the United States. Shipping prices quotes are just a rough guess. The cost of shipping has gone up over the years. The British sent spies in 1939 to steal a German Truck that had three German style Gas Cans. The British gave one of the three German cans to the American War Department in the Summer of 1940. The British like to call the Germans "Jerry", and that is why these copies of the German fuel cans are called "Jerry Cans". This item is old and in Used Condition.
Do not try to keep gasoline in this old collectable. If you want a can to keep gas in, go to Wal-Mart and buy a new "Made in China" gas can. This is being sold as an old relic collectable only. It is not being sold as a usable item. It has scratches, paint loss, dents, oxidation to the metal parts, etc. It is no longer in the perfect condition that it once was in the day it was originally manufactured. It is both damaged from having been used, and damaged from being old. Time slowly destroys old things. It is a relic from another Century.
