    Description

A small pocket manual bound in plain black leather published in 1882 as a reference guide for use of officers in Newton Massachusetts. Complete. 34 un-numbered pages. Approximately 6 by 4 inches. The title is "Rules and Regulations for the Police Department of the City of Newton. Adopted by the Mayor and Board of Alderment."  It was published in Boston and printed by Percival T. Bartlett. There are 49 numbered sections of rules etc., plus two pages about "How to restore persons apparently dead from drowning'. At the end there is an alphabetical listing of the streets in Newton and their locations. The edges of the leather binding are slightly worn, the contents are in excellent condition. For details, please see the attached photos.
This small plain pocket manual was probably carried by Newton officials and then discarded. As such, it is a rare survivor - I cannot locate another copy.
